How the original Russian Solaris space station is not in the top five is beyond me… Just look at it's design in entry on this video, it has an "authentic" nuts & bolts look (on the level of the Nostromo spacecraft). I understand Babylon 5, DS9, Space Station V and The Death Star being rated higher, but the others just don't match up.
Watchtower 2 is just a flying sex toy though.
I don't have time to read 2k comments but did anyone mention the station that Bruce Dern was on in Silent Running? Or were they considered ships too? I thought it was pretty cool how there was enough room to race buggies around in them.
The "Death Star" is not a satellite, it moves to other star systems, its a large spaceship!
The Death Star on #1?
Sure it blew up Alderaan but a much smaller Xindi planetkiller could do the same and seeing how Enterprise takes place centuries before Deep Space Nine one could consider such a ship primitive.
The Death Star was blown up only days after it was completed by one small ship, anders X-Wing. And remember it was designed as a battlestation so it should have easily repulsed such an attack.
Deep Space Nine which began as Terok Nor which was a processing station. Only after Starfleet took over control and the Dominion threat was looming, extra upgrades were installed. Something the station was not designed for.
Deep Space Nine would test them on the fly against aan heavily armed Klingon fleet and come out on top.
Later it was indeed captured by the Dominion but only after putting up a hell of a fight.
I can not say the same for the Death Star. It was too big, too ineffective and too easily destroyed.
What about the city in "Dark city"? I think, that's worth a mention.
wtf? where is Tyconderoga (from Starship Troopers)?
So technically a Borg ship was…. A ship but. & What happened to "Silent Running"? It was a space station "greenhouse" housing the last of Earth's vegetation?
Babylon 5, by far, trumps the Star Wars and Star Trek stories, with as close to science "fact" in their fiction as stories coming out now 20-30 years later.. It also used centripetal force to achieve gravity, and if it wasn't for some of the creatures, it probably would have had a greater following.
I know it's not a space station as such but I've always loved moonbase alpha from space1999
Terraventure was a SHIP. Space Angel's Evening Star, Star Trek's K-7 and the original Thunderbird 5 should have gotten honorable mentions rather than MST3K's pathetic junker.
Ender's Game needed a sequel. Box office aside, to get those actors at the right age for that series was to good to pass up. Just one more movie trying to further the story a bit, even tho it works stand alone, would have been great.
Satellite of Love should have made the list, dammit.
An honorable mention to MIR space station in "Armageddon"
How about the Valley Forge in Silent Running
You forgot the Dyson Sphere from Star Trek. It's the biggest space station in Sci-fi. It' as big as the orbit of Earth around the Sun.
Titan A.E.
top 10 space stations in anime
Pandorum ship is the best
i wish they would make a star wars tv show about life on the death star be for the big boom
What about the station from 'Silent Running"
Once again Star Wars comes out on top
Empire First!
