#10. was unexpected, but it is one of my fav's.
#9. I actually HATED this movie. I'm not the biggest fan of Godard but I get why its here.
#8. Cool choice
#7 No way, not the best movie of this era.
#6. really how is this Sci Fi ?? Its just NOT. Its a thriller but NOT sci fi.
#5. OK
#4. No argument
#3. Yes, finally a great Sci Fi
#2. Excellent!
#1, Yes, what else could be here in this era.
Missing:
Day of the Triffids
Quatermass and the Pit
Both of these should be on the Top 10 over Seconds or Last Man
Pretentious people saying you have to be "intelligent" to get 2001. No, you don't. You just gotta be willing to pay very close attention to what's going on, and get yourself absorbed in it.
Numbers 10, 8, 5, 3, 2, and 1 are my favorites!
I'm suffering from dirty strong supersonic attacks!! Supersonic terrorisms!!
Help me!!
the time machine was the best it should be number 1
Barbarella didn't even deserve it's honorable mention. It was a meandering pathetic excuse to show Jane Fonda's breasts. The effects were good, but it was a cinematic equivalent of draping a thousand dollar tux over a mound of crap. It's still crap no matter how well you dress it up.
Dissapointed!!
check out the Time Travels 1964 I think
Heh, I'm studying Fahrenheit 451 right now at school.
You can't have Village of the Damned in both sic fi and horror of the 60's!
You neglected 'Fail Safe', one of the most stunning Sci-Fi films ever.
Democrats need to watch Fahrenheit 451
I never did like Planet of the Apes, it just never struck me as being anything by a B Movie. I did enjoy the ending, though, I thought that was a good plot twist. Out of all of those, 2001 was, and is, my favorite. It was the most believable of all of the films as far as the science and technology went, and as to the ending, who knows what we'd find if we encountered an alien portal/computer/sentinel.
seconds is an amazing movie I just saw it a few years ago.
I like "2001" a whole lot, but I wish one of the Discovery astronauts was Jane Fonda!
What is the name of the short film mentioned at the 40 seconds mark? I can quite understand what she says.
DANG The Creeping Terror' didn't make the list …… I'M SAD NOW …………….
Hey WatchMojo, thats definitely not a giant squid, for crying out loud ! Its clearly an octopus.
Cover looks like grown up pewdiepie
You guys forgot NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.
جميع هذه الأفلام غير مترجمة. ….?
10. Village of the Damned
9. Robinson Crusoe on Mars
8. 2001: A Space Odyssey
7. The Last Man on Earth
6. Barbarella
5. The 10th Victim (different)
4. Fahrenheit 451
3. The Time Machine
2. Alphaville
1. Planet of The Apes
Honorable Mentions
Fantastic Voyage
Voyage to The Bottom of The Sea
Marooned
I like how they knew myself and others would lose our shit if they didn't explain the absence of La Jetee.
….They put Alphaville near the end of the list….where my shit go? …..I think I lost it.
Marooned: a great film!
Comparing 2001 with Fantastic Voyage (f.i.) gives you an idea how fast culture (and society) was evolving in the '60s! In every single year, there were so many "new things" nad challenging ideas than in a whole decade!
I've seen most of these, but not all of them. Now I have some new old things to find. Thank you for this list.
1:14 not a squid
3:35 If your traveling at 15 knots inside a human body, your basically going 17 miles per hour, which is pretty damn fast! You could probably go from head to toe in a matter of a few seconds. Should that speed be used when your miniaturized as well? Maybe knot(s) reduced to decimal points would seem more accurate.
No sci-fi movie in the 1960s hit as hard as 2001: A Space Odyssey. It's very obvious why that film is at the top of the list.
Nooooooo! (ahem) Planet of the Apes No. 1 SURELY
I loved POTA (all of them) I like 2001 except for the LSD trippy ending, I still turn it off at that point.
Seconds creeped the fuck out of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys because he felt it was too real.
Oh Lord… Who comes up with these lists? No mention of 1962's "Panic In Year Zero," or 1961's "Mysterious Island?" And as much as I liked Rock Hudson's performance in the little known, "Seconds," with it's truly horrifying climax, it's extremely ambiguous story should have dropped it to an honorable mention. Of course "2001" was going to be number one… Whether it deserves to be there or not is debatable. I don't know who comes up with these lists, but experts they aren't!
time machine and Planet of the Apes…
It was an octopus in "Voyage", not a squid.
"Planet of the Apes" is also a good read.
The few movies on here that they remade weren't even close to the original's, Time Machine, Village of the Damn, Planet of the Apes, none of these can compare to the original. One movie that wasn't on here The Lost World with Claude Rains, it's been remade more times than I care to count but none equal this one.
If I remember correctly, Voyage to the bottom of the sea ended with the possibility of Nuclear War and the consequences.
The Time Machine was a True Classic.
Thats an Octopus, not a squid lol
You did not use mothra
Fahrenheit 451 the novel is better then the movie, even the author didn't really like it and thought it wasn't a good adaptation.
please do TOP 11 to 22 also 🙂
Apes over 2001
Cool! I own the top 3.
Your voice sucks
No Than yours
Sorry, but you missed Mysterious Island (1961); The Time Travelers (1964); both needed at least a mention.
Planet of the Apes should be at #1 in my opinion.
