Missed something?
Holy Crap, I didn't think Suikoden would show up. It's been pretty obscure lately…I loved that series
If they did make a promising 3d platformer about Yoshi, it would probably be an evolution of a game like Croc, Gex, and Banjo Kazooie (the egg laying bit) but it would eventually fuse with a game like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.
Why do I say this?
For platformer games to actually be with the times, they often have to fuse with a more adult genre style of gameplay. Teenagers will play platformer hybrids, because they feel a little too old to play regular platformers but they aren't old enough to play the adult ish video games they are spliced with. Crash BAndicoot led to Jak and Daxter, Spyro to Ratchet and Clank, and….SOMETHING to sly cooper.
Crash was reincarnated into Jak and Daxter, a crash esque platformer with Zelda like visuals and setting, and then later fused with the darker tone and gameplay mechanics of Grand Theft Auto.
Spyro's large levels and designs can be seen in Ratchet and Clank, who seem to be aimed at people who feel too old for Banjo Kazooie, but who's parents won't let them play Halo.
Sly Cooper was basically if you took a platformer with multiple characters to choose from, like Donkey Kong 64, and then tried to add watered down elements of Thief and Splinter Cell.
God, I miss my early to mid teen years. Man am I getting sentimental. RIP Nanna.
Anywho, I say all this stuff to show that if a Yoshi game was to be relevant, even if still remaining kid friendly, it kind of needs to interbreed to varying degrees with more complicated games. My advice? Take some of Castle Vania's whip work seen in Lord of Shadows and apply it to his tongue. I could see a little Fable going into the world building.
Body Harvest at least deserves an honorable mention.
i would add Tomba and Vigilante 8.
oddworld.
Koudelka
wow … i cant believe it … "someone" know vagrant story. this game was rly epic (and fukkin hard 2)
Legend of Dragoon FTW!!!
Xenogears?
#1 overlooked on this list: The entire Sega Saturn platform. Come on, wtf…. 4th Gen vid omitted all of TG16 as well.
I have been looking for Mystic ninja for years and I could never remember the name, I am happy I watched this video
klonoa is coming back from the dead as an anime
Castlevania 64 (Opposing Bloodlines)
Wher is Chrono Cross?
Legacy of Kain was so great <3 I wish there would be some kind of reboot, but unfortunatly, Square Enix killed it
Body Harvest, Beetle Adventure Racing
Legacy of Kain is my favorite Video game series of all time, the athmosphere, the story, the voice actings, thank god they killed the Nosgoth game cause that looked terrible, Legacy of kain still has some juice to at least give us a soul reaver prequel after blood omen 2 were Raziel and the other vampires rules Nosgoth, but with many key members from Crystal dynamics gone I dont hold my breath
When I was a kid suikoden was the best rpg, I've ever played. No one around me new about it tho
Damn, no one remembers Syphon Filter…
Damn, no one remembers Syphon Filter anymore…
I just completed Soul Reaver and JFG recently, damn.
tall short… what gives…?
I have jet force Gemini on the rare replay collection
I was willing to believe Suikoden ii is too well known until Soul Reaver came up. Also Dino Crisis 2 is possibly just a top 10 5th gen game
