– “The Mighty Eighth” – Latest Teaser Footage (HD) WWII, Drama
Just in time for Veteran’s Day, we have a really cool exclusive for you, which comes in the form of a sneak peek at teaser footage/concept trailer for THE MIGHTY EIGHTH, a WWII epic that focuses on the B17 air crews piloting through the onslaught of the Luftwaffe. The footage was put together by Hydraulx, the special effects company formed by Greg & Colin Strause (SKYLINE, TAKE SHELTER). The film has yet to be shot with the script out to cast and making its debut at AFM, so this is a unique peek at not only the proposed film, but how it’s being sold in the early stages. It’s a very cool teaser, regardless, and one that shows a mountain of potential for the project.
Plot: Five miles above the earth and deep behind enemy lines, eleven men inside a bomber known as the “Flying Fortress” fight for their lives against swarms of enemy German fighters. As American bombers are picked off one by one, their mission becomes very clear: survive.
THE MIGHTY EIGHTH was written by Kurt Johnstad (300, 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE, ACT OF VALOR) and is produced by David Hoberman (THE FIGHTER, THE PROPOSAL), Todd Lieberman (THE FIGHTER, THE PROPOSAL) and Greg & Colin Strause, with director Rick Jacobson (BITCH SLAP, Starz Spartacus: War of the Damned) taking the helm.
We weren't in the war in 1942
you got a hole in your left wing….
whens this coming out
published on nov 2013.. ugh
The sheer drama of the last scene in these teaser is amazing – what looks like a storm of gnats ahead of you and the pilot's grim warning "Here they come" right before all Hell breaks loose… Well done.
When are they going to show this movie?
3:05 pilot knocked out
My Uncle flew a P-38 Lightning (Black Cat Squadron ) over Germany WWII I was proud of him growing up he was my role model. He told me once that we fought for the wrong side, Communist Russia was the enemy not Germany.
I will not watch any more of this. It is idiotically stupid. For one thing, the noise in a B 17 was so loud you couldn't hear anything without your headset. Secondly, if you listen to recordings of the crew talking, they almost always sounded calm. It was a way of not just losing your mind.
This movie is deplorably stupid and an insult to the brave men who flew those missions. For shame.
Stupid. Not historical.
looks like another computer generated movie…. the modern day movies can't come close to being in the same league as Tora Tora Tora, Kelly's Heroes, Battle of Britain, etc.
Ugh! So many errors! This takes place in '1942' and 'Triangle C was the 303rd BG.
1. All the 1942 raids by the 8th AF were to cities in France. The 303rd didn't attack Kassel until July 30, 1943 with 23 B-17s, of which 4 were shot down. The first raid on Germany wasn't until January, 1943.
2. The white triangle tail squadron insignia wasn't added until summer, 1943.
3. The star insignia is very incorrect, as the star and bar wasn't on the right side top wing, nor was it introduced until summer 1943, with a red outline. The outline appears to be blue.
4. The physics at 1:10 are laughable, both would have disintegrated on impact, not stuck together and flown like mating dragonflies. Watch the scene in Memphis Belle where the fighter cuts a B-17 in half.
5. The waist gun positions were open, not enclosed plexiglass, that was introduced with the G model.
6. No oxygen masks at 25,000 feet? No helmets on the pilots?
7. At 1:54, we can see from the bomb bay to the front windshield…umm, where is the top turret?? The gunner? The revolving assembly?
8. The Luftwaffe hadn't fully developed frontal attack tactics yet.
9. ME-109s flying from Germany didn't need drop tanks with airfields all over, yet we see them dangling like Nazi scrotums from every fighter.
I think HBO needs a technical advisor. The sad thing is, someone had to draw all this stuff in CGI anyway, why not do it correctly? "Based on true events" is code for 'we're gonna add a bunch of faux-dramatic bullshit'.
Not that this won't be a great series but it will just give the American public that the USA won the air war by itself and give no credence to the main bomber force against Germany, RAF Bomber Command. Lancaster's and Halifax's carried twice the amount of bombs as B17 or B24 and destroyed whole German cities
The guy puts his mask on, and in the next clip, the mask has fallen off again.
I understand the need to pull things in closer for the story action to fit the screen when making a movie, but the bomber formations in this film is so insanely close to each other that there would be more wrecked from the planes just bumping into each other then would normally be lost in a real mission.
The prologue states "65 B-17 Bombers," but buy counting the number of planes on the right side of our bomber at 2:24, and all the planes in the background at 2:30 (two seprate shots), there are more then 80 B-17's in the sky, not counting the main bomber.
Then the number of enemy planes filling the sky looks to be more then the total number of fighters the Luftwaffe had in flying condition on any one day for all the theater of operations combined.
There is 'artistic license' that one has to take when telling a story on the screen, but there is a point where too much artistic license can ruin what one is trying to tell.
Is this the trailer
While watching this I had flash-back to comments made about "Red Tails". And the combat shown within it. Having spoken to Vets from the 8th and 15th (Including real members of the Red Tails), this is rather real. What we all saw on shows/movies like 12 O'clock High was rather "cleaned up".
This was three years ago, and still no movie. So, where's the full movie?
I'm not even wasting my time on this one. The last one I fell for was Fury and I was ready to vomit it was so inaccurate and just flat out foolish.
