He was co-created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks in 1928, debuting in the cartoon classic “Steamboat Willie.” The first animation to feature comedic uses of sound, it quickly overtook the competition. Ever since then, the anthropomorphic mouse has grown from being a mere character in animated cartoons, comic strips and musical performances to a full-length film and video game star. Not just an icon and mascot of The Walt Disney Company, he is one of the most famous animated characters in the world, and continues to be re-invented for new generations to discover and enjoy. Join as we take a look at the history of Mickey Mouse.

Let's all just think about the laws of public domain:
The laws state that most forms of copyright have a lasting range of 56 years. Once that point is crossed, the movie or character becomes part of public domain.
Now think about this: Have you seen anything starring Mickey Mouse that wasn't created or owned by Disney in any way?
No, because Disney still holds Mickey Mouse and many others characters in their copyright.
Remember, Mickey was created in 1928, that's 89 years so far, 32 years past the laws of public domain.
You want to know how this has destroyed the basis of public domain?
