Red Hook Summer – Official Trailer (HD)
– “Red Hook Summer” – Official Trailer
The latest in Spike Lee’s Chronicles of Brooklyn anthology–which also includes “She’s Gotta Have It” (1986), “Do The Right Thing” (1989), “Crooklyn” (1994), “Clockers” (1995), and “He Got Game” (1998)–RED HOOK SUMMER tells the story of Flik Royale (Jules Brown), a sullen young boy from middle-class Atlanta who has come to spend the summer with his deeply religious grandfather, Bishop Enoch Rouse (Clarke Peters), in the housing projects of Red Hook. Having never met before, things quickly get off on the wrong foot as Bishop Enoch relentlessly attempts to convert Flik into a follower of Jesus Christ. Between his grandfather’s constant preaching and the culture shock of inner-city life, Flik’s summer appears to be a total disaster–until he meets Chazz Morningstar (Toni Lysaith), a pretty girl his age, who shows Flik the brighter side of Brooklyn. Through her love and the love of his grandfather, Flik begins to realize that the world is a lot bigger, and perhaps a lot better, than he’d ever imagined.

The kid actors sucked. They fucked up this movie. Why did Spike Lee hire them? What the fuck was he thinking.. I know he could've got some quality kid actors for cheap.
really ??,, which ones exactly ?? 0.0
Black people don't complain when blacks directors stop making movies for you.You don't appreciated them. Continue to watch your coon flicks where they show blacks in a negative light and Tyler Perry movies that have the same plots and predictable endings.
those were GREAT,,, & did very well in the box offices
Cardboard characters, kitsch and cliché. The movie jumps from one storyline into another. Even though this movie does touch upon a couple of interesting points – it harms it more than anything else by not taking the time to thoroughly treat these themes. It is all popcorn covered with a suger layer – easy to digest. The filmmaker does not hold its audience in high regard. Now I am even reluctant to watch Do the right thing. Shm.
i hate the way they make re hook seems to be like 🙁
Red hook ia actually pretty nice
Like spike lee it isnt the 80s brooklyn isnt like that any more rofl
lmfao this shit sucks.
Exactly and this negro spike lee wants to criticize Jamie Foxx for playing a black hero (finally we get one) in Django. Saying this is a real movie I came to see the trailer and its shittier than I thought.
The acting is stiff, especially the beginning but revs up towards the middle. The film raises important issues in that face black communities. Black Flight, gentrification, overt hypocritical spirituality, child abuse… When I was visiting my grandmother in Red Hook in the 80's there were lots of problems. Heroin fucked it up well. Glad Spike made this. Plus, who da' fuck else gonna make a movie featuring Red Hook? Quentin Terantino? Fuck outta here.
The level of acting brought back a lot of nostalgic memories of my middle school days. My acting on drama class video project was far more superior than RHS.
screw this shit… I'ma go watch Django
When I saw it , I was a little bit surprised the bishop enoch turned out to be a child molester , but with all Spike Lee movies……..there is no happy ending. Just questions that waiting to be answered.
I think Spike Lee was trying to expose an issue in the Black church. Pedophilia is an issue that is hidden and needs to be exposed. I agree, it seemed odd to make Enoch a pedophile but overall I'm glad the issue was brought up.
How does Inglewood or Carson in CA have anything to do with Redhook in NYC? Owe I get it – you wanted to sound cool calling someone a "daft cunt" on youtube. Haha – That's so corny.
Regardless of what some may say Shelton "Spike" Lee is talented!!!
I know you can do better movies than this spike.
oh word? man I didn't finish watching the movie because it was two hours of a boring movie.
this movie came off boring. it was dry as hell. I didn't finish watching because some of the stuff you mentioned weren't displayed when I watched it but will go back to see the outcome.
Good idea, lol I'm right behind you.
I live in red hook
loved this film. i find it bizarre that spike is so under-appreciated. he's like the bjork of the movie industry. a true artist but a lot of people just don't get him, i guess. i feel so fortunate to be able to see his creations. the music was great, too.
If you want to watch this on netflix, beware: they fullscreened it and stretched the picture for some reason.
I wasn't ready for the plot twist!
Spike Lee making crappy movies in NY is getting old!
Honestly, it looks like a good independent film from the trailer.
this looks like shit compare to al this other movies
i don't wanna hear it.. this movie was good.. plot twist phucked me up
I just came here cuz this guy looked like the guy from Dead Giveaway.
People complain about the movies of Spike Lee, but they just dont get it, its about the Dialogs…
MAAAAAAN, Spike Lee is more European than American, because he has brains!!!!
this was whack.
Nooo…
I just watched this movie and the whole time all I could think was what is the point of this movie. I must say I am so glad I watched it all the way through. Not great acting but this was a great story and I did not expect it. I love Spike Lee more today than I did yesterday because he stayed true to his craft.
Spike stay on some deep shit. Those who said it's wack is probably a fuckin child molester, or just some uppity ass clown.
I just watched the movie and I lived it. Spike Lee is so deep, but it takes a creative individual to understand the way his mind works! I have enjoyed every Spike Lee movie thus far and I hope he continues making movie magic!!
This movie Is fucking dumb
Just watched this film on Netflix. I liked it overall, but I sure didn't see that twist coming.
characters don't have the same charm as do the right thing
BOX OFFICE BOMB!
I liked it but I just didn't love it.
the vibe…i mean the vibe has lost!! I miss the vibe like in crooklyn or do the right thing!! !
Another (Quiet) Spike Lee classic .
a movie definitely not for everybody just a real thinker type movie to watch and reflect
Clarke Peters is amazing in this (because he's amazing in everything), but it was mostly decent overall. A bit melodramatic with the sudden plot at the end.
I laugh when people say that if you didn't like it, you didn't get it. There was nothing to get. There was no deep message here, and if there were, it was very poorly executed. The acting was awful, the plot made no sense, it was overall not well written. Certain things were thrown in just for the sake of it, like Mookie delivering pizzas and the guy from the Wire saying "sheeeeee-it".
this couldve been a two minute short film edited by the guy who made this trailer… wtf
is this based on a true story?
Troubling.
