Maybe you should watch the show this clip is based on. It is based on the book "Team Of Rivals" A book that follows factual events based on speeches and first hand accounts of the Lincoln Presidency. I don't understand how you could possibly deny the fact that slavery was the main divider and cause of the civil war. You can hate the government, you can hate the North.. You can't rewrite history that has been well documented. Watch this movie. It will give you pride in this country. Yes, Even you
Most definitely.
Tommy is such a powerful actor.
The House of Commons in the UK isn't much more civil than this.
That's exactly what I thought when I saw this! My god the debates in the US look sterile in comparison (if a bit more orderly).
Thaddeus Stevens grew up in Vermont. Was Jones even trying to sound regionally correct? If so, he failed pretty miserably. If not, way to phone it in, Tommy Lee.
To me, that was one of the funniest parts of his speech, even better than some of the jokes.
no. it was the left.
No it was the liberals afraid to hurt anyone's feelings and they guilt tripped the Conservatives into doing the same.
Which is way I'd make a poor congressman.
The Wig part is true, Stevens had lost all his hair, and atop his bald head he wore a wig which never seemed to fit correctly. According to one legendary story, a female admirer once asked him for a lock of his hair, a common request made to 19th century celebrities. Stevens took off his wig, dropped it on a table, and said to the woman, "Help yourself."
32 people are endowed by their creator with dim wits, impervious to reason with cold, pallid slime instead of hot red blood
I loved this speech. I laughed out loud.I thought Tommy was describing some of the dimwits in Congress today. Thumbs up if you agree!
Mi escena preferida …. aunque sale cortada
Because almost no one is even close to deep or introspective enough to say stuff like that anymore… and I can almost certainly assure you that none of those people are in politics… >.<
Thaddeus Stevens – Fighting for Agent J's future since 1865.
Maybe, one day, we can see Congress interact like this again. No more false politeness, no more false dislike.
I've come close to screaming this to referees. And I'm a 4th grade girls ASSISTANT basketball coach. Pretty sad on my part that my Movie Tourette's Syndrome is that out of control. But one of the greatest clips ever.
Come to Australia.
wow the make up on tommy lee is horrible.
He was too fun to watch in this movie. Then again, he's great in most of the films he's in anyway.
hahahhaha Yes I think the same thing hahahahhaha
Yes that part
hahah I love this part because if you can see… the republicans laughes hahhaha and ther faces hahahhahaha in each insult hahhahahaha and the democrats fecaes too hahahahaha they get surprised hahahhahahaha. I wanna say somethings, poor reptile hahhahahaha.
Ypu like a looser
No, but you are
But he is a great actor, that doesn´t matter.
I am agree
I was reading an article about Thaddeus Stevens for my AP History class, and I had seen the movie a couple days prior. By conicidence, I noticed Lee Jones looked a lot like Stevens. X3
God, I dunno, Christopher Waltz was good in Django, but I thought Tommy Lee Jones stole this movie. I loved the character and that speech.
I remember this Irish politician with the guts as Stevens. He was awesome.
Such a fantastic speech, apply cold water to that burn George.
Love this part!! Tommy Lee Jones was the best in this movie besides DDL!! Great performances by both actors!
tlj was better in his scenes than ddl, just saying
You are more reptile than man! …awesome line
I heard that the US congress, and quite possibly the rest of America, speak at an 8th grade level. this is what we need to be teaching our kids now, the ability to use their brains at the drop of a hat to produce something that is so witty and intelligent that the opposition can only go "How dare you" or for a more modern equivalent "Well you're stupid!" 🙂
"…but even you should be treated equally before the law!"
(speaking to congress about anti-abortion laws)
How can I hold that all men AND women are created equal when before me stands, STINKING, the moral carcasses of Boehner and McConnell, proof that some men are in fact inferior! Endowed by their creators with horrible tans and turtle-like appearances, impermeable to reason, with cold, pallid SLIME in their veins instead of hot red blood!
And YOU are more reptile than man Rick Perry! So low and flat the foot of man is incapable of crushing you!
What he is really saying is: "How can I hold that all men are created equal when here before me stands before a DEMOCRAT!!!". Democrats have the worst political history in the United States.
Would have loved to have been an eyewitness to all of this back in '65.
HOW DARE YOU
Agent K, fighting for Agent J's rights since 1864.
HOWWWWWWWWWWDARRRRRRRRRRRRREYOUUUUUUUUU!!!!
I live in Cincinnati. George Pendleton's house is clearly visible from I71 on top of a high hill near downtown. When I'm driving along and look up there and see the house I think of this scene and snicker every time. Poor George! tee hee hee.
