THIS IS SPARTA ! Or well, it’s what Hollywood wants us to believe it is…
In this episode of Top 5 Myths, we’re looking at all the lies films have told us about this legendary Greek warrior force – The Spartans. A certain Zack Snyder flick based on a graphic novel, 300, is quite guilty of skewing our vision of this military – but lets see what’s fact and what’s fiction. We’ll be asking questions like; Did they wear much armor? were all men spartan warriors? Were they sent into the woods as a rite of passage? Was pederasty a big deal in Sparta? Did 300 men alone fight to defend the pass? and many more.

I'm sorry what, 3 is just totally wrong, spartans were not demoted to the helot class if they were not good enough, and all Spartiate citizens were eligible for service, and being born from two Spartan parents made them full citizens already. Who the fuck did the research for this shite
The pederasty myth is Athenian propaganda by Plutarch. More reliable sources like Xenophon say it's a lie
That there white

Battle of Badr army of 313 look that up the REAL 300
This video needs to be renamed to "5 reason the movie 300 was wrong"
SHIN COVERINGS! wtf lol
Spartan men had wives for children, and boys (not men, boys) for pleasure.
Yes because 300 is a comic.
Duh! Don't get your history information from stupid movies. But, the legend of the 300 is somewhat true. There were other Greek troops there, but the Spartans were the first in the fight. And there may have been 400, 500, etc.? One thing you should know about history and myth, they loved to exaggerate the numbers, either higher or lower than they really were. Some of these old legends have armies of 100s of thousands or even a million (like the bible). BS! Persian troops have been highly over exaggerated ever since this legend started. Most cities, like Athens, on of the largest (about 100,000, including slaves, women, children, old men, and non-citizens), could at best muster about 5,000 soldiers on a good day. Smaller cities would be doing good to get 800 to 1,000 men. Then if you consider the fight was in a narrow pass, between a cliff and the sea. And the Persians were conscripts, many of them likely their first battle, fighting the best trained military in that part of the world. And the Spartans had the best and most modern metal weapons and armor, while the Persian had wicker shields and likely many with wooden spears, then it is not so fantastic, although still impressive.
My English teacher banged king leonidas in 2000
also: the reason why there where only 300 spartans, was because they where meant to hold their position until greece was completely united, they all agreed on that and there was a truce with sparta and athens after the spartans won't the battle against athens, the spartans new they where going to die, and also the politicians, and atheneans new that, it was all a strategy that proved successful, there was no sacred festival or corruption that prevented it
It is true. The real spartans were much more robust, bigger in body shape etc. Better equipped as well. The movie though got many real quotes and incorporated them exceptionally well. As a Greek, it's the only film that I've see 5 times and keep in mind no other movie can watch even twice. The wrong part this video got about the lone wolf, that was only for the intendended king and it's reality.
Bullshit the pederasty was not sexual this is homo propaganda of some scholars who translated deliberately wrong the word ΕΡΩΣ(EROS-LOVE) it means Respect and true friendship of the kids they weren't fucking them!!!These "practices" were common to Anglosaxons and Celts not Ancient Greeks so STFU and look to your fucking ancestors instead of continuing the slander of the so called "Homosexuality and Pedophile Ancient Greece" which is completely false historically and unproven scientifically…gay soap opera fantasies NOT TRUE
Ok the 300 movie was based on a comic so its 100% fiction why the fuck do you keep mentioning it like its fact?
im sorry but im greek and a teacher and some of your myths are not myths at all, actually all spartans were warriors ,the slaves you say were not spartians they had other origins and because they were so many all spartans men and women knew how to fight in case of a revolt from the slaves , also pedophillia was most common in Athens were it was an honor to learn sex for your teacher.Lastly in Sparta they didnt have classes at all ,they had only the spartans and the slaves ! Educate yourselfs….
there were 300 Spartans but they had significant help from other city-states
i make music on my channel. Mostly electronic. Can somebody check it out?
i Hate to spam this shit, but i get almost no views whatsoever so i have to do this.
i really didn't believe in almost none of those myths they described in the video…
Ok..So not only Spartans but all Greeks were Pedophiles…. Great History lesson by mojo.com
Maybe we should really read some history books.. I mean all of us. No they were not pedophiles..-The word pedophile or paedophile is a Greek word, used as a curse in ancient Greece.. Homosexuality (as common practice) is also a myth but "we" modern people like to translate ancient traditions with our standarts… Actually in ancient Greece the term homosexual did not exist…Men who participated in homosexual acts were called kynedi (κιναιδοι which means those who move Goddess Shame-a Greek vengefull goddess who used goddess Nemessis to punish ),they were confronted by the the state and were deprived from basic citizen rights (written in the Laws of Solon)… Pedophilia was punished by death .So maybe the myth is that they weren't so democratic as we think with our modern point of view 😉
So if someone reads Platos Symposium without having basic knowledge of Ancient Greek law (Athenian or Spartan) can easily feed that myth..
Well, well mojo.. Try 10 savage moments in cooking reallities …
Do Vikings next
This is Sparta
Spartans are the ones who kicks your ass in the Hole of course
I fought next to them RIP in peace my friends and remember…
THIS…IS…
SPAARTAAAA!!!!!!!
Bitches don't know about Sparta !
I completely agree with these myths. 300 was entertaining, but in no way should be thought of as a historically accurate film… if you dare think of it in any way possible.
In the thumbnail that guy on the right… Wasn't he the same monk in hugh jackman's van helsing?
I started the writing of a book whose main character was a spartan soldier and I watched 300 out of curiosity later.
So weird. I almost stopped the story because of how people would consider it with 300 in mind.
Doesn't matter if it's myth the film is based on frank millers graphic novel n
I thought the video was about god of war
they were on foot
Oh yea meet the spartans. I remember when parody films were a thing
Was this video made mostly just to disprove 300? That movie never claimed to be accurate; they didn't even put "based on a true story" in the beginning. It's based on a comic book, so…
Funny how some other cultures call Spartans gay. Even if some did have sex with other men, at least they took the dick like men and took it rough. Not like a bunch of 21st century gay people who dress up in dresses and act annoyingly flamboyant and act like little entitled bitches
I didn't know
The film was told from the perspective a soldier, ie an unreliable narrator. It wasnt supposed to be an accurate depiction of Sparta/Thermopylae
A myth I believed was that the Greece was for "free men" when in reality a larger percentage of their population were slaves as compared to Persia and the rest of the ancient world.
