Gladiator, Maximus sacrifices is life for the future of his beloved country Rome. OR EVEN Gladiator – Priam ( once thought of as a HEARTLESS man who was a free man who buys and sells slaves) Sacrifices his life to try and free Maximus
Maximus says to Priam "Priam are you in danger of becoming a good man" and Priam just laughs/smirks and sacrifices himself to free the man who can save Rome.
"shadows and dust Priam! SHADOWS AND DUST!"
My number one is, The iron giant
harry potter? darth vader?
the role reversal in star trek into darkness was equally tear jerking in my opinion
That Ending from the Coast Guard film "The Guardian" some how makes me cry a water fall. "I won't let go""I know" Gets me every time.

Guri sound like golem
This is my nr 1 too: Spock dies. I have written this before, when I had first seen this movie, this sceene: I bursted with tears. This was an experience I wish I could share with all Trekkies in the world. Later I started on exploring the life of Spock: Of Leonard Nimoy. He was a jew, like I am, he was a character within a whole universe, he was a role model for some while acting like a mixed person, half human and half vulcanian, half jew and half Goi. I ador this man Leonard Nimoy, who was not only a great actor, but a wonderful story teller as well. — Hans Rosenthal (A.H.R.D.)
I know this is like 4 years old, but I have to ask: Where is Braveheart? You know, William Wallace (Mel Gibson) letting out a final cry of freedom after being hung then beat then having his gut ripped open with a sickle, and still being able to yell for England to hear and Scotland prevail?
For #4, he knows they wouldn't leave without him (Or at least would have stayed longer and might have been caught).
I'm seeing a lot of people on this list who don't seem to get that a character death being sad doesn't automatically make it a sacrifice
Jean doesnt die
I would say something like Jesus, but some people think he is more than a movie character.
b Max

What about PRETTY MUCH EVERY SINGLE MAIN CHARACTER in Rogue One? Jyn, Cassian, K2SO, Bodie, Admiral Raddis, all the Rebel Soldiers who volunteered for the strike knowing they'd almost certainly die, the Rebel Soldiers in the hallway of the flagship, Saw Gurrera (kinda), Chirrut Imwe, Baze Malbus…

4:04 and than they threw all that good will away by having an ass-faced douchebag make the dumbest phoenix origin story ever…than they made a prequel that fixes the problem and than the maker of this awesome scene fucks it up YET AGAIN by bringing the third movie back into the continuity
I feel like gandalf should be in here
groot?
What about groot
Boromire needs to be on this
Why is Leonidas' death a heroic sacrifice ?
1. he starts the war
2. then he goes woth his friends on a suicide mission
3. and in the end he forces them to walk in front of a billion archers
That's not heroic. It's only stupid like it would be to smash your head against a wall to get rid of your headache.
