Major. Bombs. This. Week. One of the very best actors of his generation, Daniel Day-Lewis announced his retirement. The There Will Be Blood star delivered the news via his publicist, but did not mention any reason why. Tom Cruise’s The Mummy has been subject to even more bad news, with number-crunching members of the industry saying the film is on pace to lose $95 million! And the only story to rival that of DDL’s retirement is the news of directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller being fired from the Star Wars Han Solo film over creative differences. Ron Howard has been hired to replace them. So sit back, relax and enjoy this week’s instalment of The CineFiles, where we count down the week’s biggest news in cinema.

I feel so sorry for Tom Cruiz…
I love you! My video about you )
I suppose there are worse choices than Howard, who at least is a longtime friend of George Lucas. But seriously, why fire two of the best directors in Hollywood today and replace them with a guy who's made one good film in the last 15 years?
Ron Howard is a great choice. He's handled a space film before with "Apollo 13" and I love that movie.
I bet Universal makes up the Mummy loss overseas and with DVD sales. And I'll bet Ron Howard can finish Han Solo and turn out a pretty awesome film. You have to admit though you can pretty much slap Star Wars on just about anything and it'll sell.
I'm not sure if I should be glad or disappointed that Ron Howard is directing the Han Solo film. A) it's good because he's directed some very good movies in the past, but B) his newer movies are getting worst these days, except for The Beatles: Eight Days a Week documentary, that's the best film he's made this decade.
Don't they know we don't like tom cruise anymore?
I don't understand why they would hire comedic directors and then fire them because the screenwriter wanted something more straight-forward (and probably humorless) 4 months into filming.
of course old people like those at lucasfilm only like to work with old people

I knew that the mummy wouldn't do good because the trailer didn't look that good, it looked like it wasn't really going to make sense and I wanted to be wrong, I wanted it to be surprisingly good but sadly I was right
Just imagine being excited for your own movie to come out, only to watch it fall apart. Sorry Tom. 🙁
Hasn't Daniel Day Lewis done this before??
Han Solo under Ron Howard will be cool. Solo thumps the Falcon, it works. 'The Fonz' thumps a jukebox, it works. Heeeeeeyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!
This movie shouldn't be happening.
heard the mummy was garbage
It's news, not a top ten list. Just talk about it and don't number them.
3:20 "Star Wars Episode IV The Empire Strikes Back"?!
Tom Cruise has been recycled too much.
They should've kept Lord and Miller since they never made a bad movie. Plus, they could've made a bad idea become unique and fresh.
so glad the jump street films where not even funny to me.
Firing someone who worked on 21 Jump Street, and hiring Ron Howard, is the smartest Star Wars business decision since George Lucas managed to obtain merchandise rights for relative peanuts. People might like to tease Ron Howard, especially the Simpsons, but fact remains, he is a very talented director who made some movies that succeeded both critically and financially. I have gone from not caring about the Han Solo movie, to actually wanting to see it.
literally, dan you think you're so fuxking cool, you just want to infatalise the lot of us. i dont adore tou. i think you're a mean jerk. im not laughing with youm i' laughjng at you.
How is Daniel Day Lewis retiring not #1?!?
They need to FIRE DISNEY. THAT'S what they need to do.
Disney is ASS FUCKING Star Wars into a fucking COMA. :>(
Nothing will beat the original mummy
The WM logo in the thumbnail looks like the Waste Management logo.
I don't watch starwars, but you should use the force and subscribe to my channel.

Awwww love it! Disney and Kathleen Kennedy are destroying Star Wars!!! The Han Solo film was doomed from the start! Weak as fuck how about some original Star Wars stories not films milking the originals! 😉
I got a great idea for a starwars movie…..a rated-R starwars movie
no sexual, no strong language,
just some really intense and dark violence.
Sucks that I'll never act alongside DDL, but what's probably worse is THE MUMMY being a bomb when it's supposed to kickstart Dark Universe with Tom Cruise in more films!
Best ending to a WatchMojo video ever.
HELP ME OPIE WAN KANOBI! "Opie Wan… Opie Wan…." whistles a little tune…"That is a name I have not heard in a long, long time."
as far as the mummy goes, it looks like they focused more on making it an action film instead of a monster movie.. and imo they should of set them all in the same original time periods.. and discolored the films.. sort of like what TWD does
I like Ope/Rickie (Ron Howard). Hope he does well. It is a PLAY IT SAFE MOVE. To bad For the Scruffy looking Nerfherder.
Daniel Day-Lewis has already "retired" from acting a few times; he'll probably be back in a few years from now – like he has always done – when he gets an interesting movie he wants to make.
Gotta love how WM always shows RottenTomatoes scores (which are pretty much shit) and leaves out others like IMDB – where reviews are a bit more mixed and not really in agreement (I'm not just referring to Tom Cruise's The Mummy) with WM's views. lol
Childish gambino and chewbacka
haha that scene with vader in the end was a nice touch!
"Be careful not to choke on your aspirations, Director." -Darth Vader
I'm pretty sure no one wants a stand alone Han solo film, especially since it won't be Harrison Ford.
