Leave a theory below for your chance to win a Deluxe Edition of Dark Souls 3 — just in time for the new DLC, Ringed City!
Dark Souls is, without question, my favorite modern gaming franchise. But doing a theory on these games requires an IMMENSE amount of explanation since every element of Dark Souls lore is hidden in things like item descriptions and design details. So today, I’m reviewing the entire Dark Souls story and setting up the pieces to unlock these games’ greatest mystery — who are you playing as in Dark Souls 3? Because when you actually put the puzzle pieces together, your character ISN’T just a nameless protagonist, but rather DOES have a lore behind him…but it’s going to take a LONG time to get there. So apologies for the 2-parter, but in order to make sure everyone understands what’s going on when I start getting deeper into Dark Souls Lore, I had to make sure we all had a solid understanding of the main plot and characters! And to make it better — there’s a giveaway! Huzzah!

I would tell you who the main character was if i had played the game
i think that ur a lord of cinder that died and now ur back to rekindle the flame
Theory- The main character:
The main character is nothing more than just a random bystander that happens to have been reanimated by accident. So as by accident, everyhing went by the flow and it proceeded without fail. Proving that anyone can become some flaming material. We already have the deserter, if he managed to leave and be replaced, why can't others do that too?
What if the main character of Dark Souls 3 was one of the knights of Lothric? Or possibly a slave knight? In the description of Lorian's Greatsword it says that "he was a knight who single handedly slayed the demon prince," at one time. Though in the upcoming DLC, The Ringed City, the Demon Prince is supposedly part of the final phase of a boss fight which you'll be able to summon Slave Knight Gael to assist you with. We know from the Legend of Artorias, The Abysswalker, in Dark Souls 1 that these legends can't always be trusted. The legend in the modern day of, the original, Dark Souls says that Artorias was the one to defeat Manus, Father of the Abyss, on his own. Although, in the DLC you discover that Artorias was actually consumed by the abyss, preceding you putting him out of his misery and slaying Manus. Though, despite this, the legends say that it was Artorias, even though it was you. Considering that The Ringed City will have us pitted up against another creature that was supposedly slain by another once great warrior, in legend, is it too far fetched to think that after you killed the Demon Prince Lorian was given credit for your actions? Is it possible that you as someone fighting for Lothric felt betrayed and wronged to have someone else take the glory that you earned through your blood, sweat, and tears? Too far-fetched? I don't know, it is just a theory, thank you for reading MatPat. And, even if I don't win, I hope you enjoyed this little thought.
I would guess that the player character is a friend or relative of the prince, but I really don't know.
Bro, you keep showing Patches instead of Siegward.
A relative of the princes of lothric
If anything he deserted for the sake that when you enter the mausoleum of the abyss watchers you watch as they kill the last of their army before turning to you. If anything he bounced because they were finnaly sick of being stuck with eachother that a sort of civil war was started, and a legion of soldiers who once kept peace in the (once beautiful) farron keep had finally been broken
Matt Pat….. did you really play Dark Souls? Because anyone who knows anything about Dark Souls knows who Patches is…..
what if there were THREE Super Lothric Bros. and you're just the other guy
the protagonist could be of blood or marriage relations to the princes.
it is going to the king i thing
Here's a theory. How powerful is DOOM's BFG 9000?
My theory would be that the player character is a player character from the first game (one that kindled the flame).
I've only played dark souls 1 and haven't payed that much attention to the lore of the game but when I watched someone play through the Twin Princes boss fight I noticed Lothric doesn't address the player as if they know each other. As boring as it may seem, I believe the Ashen one had simply gained a new opportunity to redeem himself, perhaps he was from a Nobel family which could lead as a drive for him to want to succeed though I simply don't see enough evidence supporting his connections to the twin princes
matpat I'm disappointed. the picture you used for siegward is another character, and you didnt talk about hawkwoods path of the dragon questline, which is very important to the character. Look deeper becauze you have still only scratch the surface. Well maybe you prove me wrong on the next video. I'm curious as to who you believe is the mc of ds3.
NOOOO CLIFFHANGER :'(
I thinks it's Jesus
The main character could be the reincarnation of Oscar, Knight of Astora(DS1). This is supported by the fact that Oscar would have been a major character in DS1 in which he would become the lord of Dark if you, the Chosen Undead, chose to be the Lord Of Cinder and vice versa. And if we are going with the Lord of Cinder ending as canon, then Oscar would not have rekindled the fire because he was going to end the cycle of rekindling, which he would have failed at doing and most likely become an unkindled when he was killed by the chosen undead. The Main Protagonist of DS3 has the option to either rekindle the fire or become the Lord Of Hollows, which is essentially another name for the Lord Of Dark, and end the cycle, both of these were options that Oscar could have chosen when he was in Lordran.
However, this doesn't seem to connect the Main Protagonist to the Twin Princes, and I'm basing this off of cut-content so, who knows right?
well, you could be the twin princes scholar, but that's all I can think of… this is probably not right, lol
My theory is that Onion Man and Solaire are secretly the main character's gay (but separated) parents, and that's why they keep popping up and talk so weird.
